Our online non-credit SistahGurl Leadership Academy (S.L.A.) provides a virtual learning environment where women can deepen their understanding of the Bible and its teachings, develop a closer relationship with God, and grow in their faith. S.L.A. offers a variety of courses taught by Dr. Arlene Sumpter, founder of S.L.A., and other knowledgeable instructors dedicated to helping women apply Biblical principles to their daily lives. Our online platform aims to create a supportive community of women who can encourage and learn from one another as they pursue their spiritual journeys. Our ultimate goal is to equip, encourage and empower women with the knowledge and tools they need to live out their faith and positively impact their church, community, and everyday lives.

Dr. Arlene Sumpter is multifaceted, blending the role of former senior pastor within the Foursquare Denomination, a three-time author, conference speaker, certified professional coach, and the founder and executive director of Empowering Women Hawaii. Arlene holds a Doctorate in Ministry with a cognate in Theology and Cultural Apologetics from Liberty University, showcasing her commitment to scholarly pursuits and a profound understanding of theological principles. Additionally, she possesses a Master's in Strategic Leadership from Life Pacific University, emphasizing her strategic vision and leadership acumen. With a vision rooted in empowerment, transformation, strategic thinking, and leadership development, Arlene's mission is to inspire women to overcome challenges, embrace their strengths, and live purposeful lives that honor God.
Renowned for her warmth and approachability, Arlene deeply values meaningful connections and is dedicated to creating spaces—both physical and virtual—where women can be practically equipped. Her commitment is evident in initiatives like SistahGurl Read the Bible, an online Bible study group, and her weekly teachings that reach a global audience through social media and podcasts platforms. Through Empowering Women Hawaii & International, Dr. Arlene passionately encourages women through impactful gatherings and transformative workshops. She also purposefully empowers women through curated spaces to showcase their talents. Significant examples include the Empowering Women Hawaii Conference in 2019 and upcoming the SistahGurl True Women Virtual Summit in 2024, which features many first-time communicators from around the world. Dr. Arlene is a firm believer in the power of a woman’s voice and is passionately committed to ensuring that women feel heard, supported, and empowered to become the best designed version of themselves.
